FAQ

I’ve put together some of the most common questions I get asked about my training sessions. If your question isn’t covered, please get in touch and I would be delighted to help out.

Personal training

Am I too old for a personal trainer?

Definitely not! You are never too old to get fit.

How can a personal trainer help?

A personal trainer is a great way of getting individual expert advice. So whether you’re planning to run a marathon, recovering from an injury or managing a condition such as diabetes, you’ll get a fitness programme that is tailored not only to what you want to achieve but also what your body can take.

And of course having your own PT is a great motivator. No more snoozing the alarm clock or finding an excuse to skip a session!

It’s also fun. You’ll get lots of fresh ideas for new exercises and will be able to share your successes with someone who actually understands what it means to you.

I am under 18. Is it okay for me to train?

Yes, it’s absolutely fine for you to train, but as your muscles are still growing, we have to make sure it’s done properly. I will tailor a programme specifically to you which will ensure we avoid over-stressing the muscles and causing injury.

What age groups do you train?

I am happy to train all ages.

Fitness

How will I know which exercises are right for me?

At our initial meeting, we will talk through what your fitness goals are and also anything you like or dislike doing. This will help us come up with a plan together of exercises that will help achieve your goals.

I’m doing strength training but still putting on weight. Why is that happening?

Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are toning up you can expect the figure on the scales to increase.

However, it could also be down to what you are eating. Just because you are exercising doesn’t mean you can fill up on junk food! The fuel you put into your body is just as important if you want to see good results.

I can also  give you advice on nutrition and happy to talk through your diet and come up with some advice on what you should be eating.

Is it possible to just build particular muscles?

Yes, it is.  Let me know which muscles you want to focus on and I will come up with a programme of different exercises to target that particular muscle.

Training sessions

Do you run group sessions?

Yes I do, although I keep groups to 6 maximum as that way I can make sure everyone is doing the exercises properly.

What do I need to bring to a personal training session?

Bring a water bottle so you can stay hydrated and also a towel.

What should I eat before a session?

Whatever you do, don’t overeat! I would recommend sticking to light foods and eating at least an hour before the beginning of your training session. If you want any advice on what foods you should eat, just let me know.

What should I wear?

As you will be working out, I would recommend wearing gym-suitable clothes you feel comfortable in, such as breathable shorts or sports leggings and a light top. Don’t forget to also wear trainers.
